Baby Amuk in parki

Baby Amuk in parki

An Inupiat Tradition

I have always been in search for the perfect way to carry my babies with as little strain on my back and shoulders as possible. While living in a small native village in northern Alaska a Native Alaskan woman made me a "parki" (or parka) and taught me how to amuk my baby. This means to carry a baby or small child on your back under your coat.
Because the baby is so close to your center of gravity and is supported from the bottom by a belt it was the most comfortable way to carry that I had ever tried.
After returning to the lower 48, while expecting my 3rd child I began designing a carrier that would carry baby in a similar way. The Amuk baby carrier is soft and light so it can be taken anywhere you go but is durable enough to use with toddlers.

Just finished this Amuk carrier for my brother and sister-in-law. Congrats on your new little one.
